Appraiser & Umpire
When property insurance claims reach a standstill, the appraisal process can provide a faster, more cost-effective alternative to litigation. At VIP Adjusting, we offer both Appraisal and Umpire services designed to resolve disputes fairly and efficiently, ensuring that policyholders and carriers alike have confidence in the outcome.
The Appraisal Process
Appraisal is a settlement option written into most property insurance contracts, yet many policyholders and even contractors are unfamiliar with how it works. In its simplest form, appraisal is a way to resolve disputes about the amount of loss without resorting to litigation.
Once appraisal is invokeed, each party selects an appraiser, and those appraisers work together to reach an agreement. If they cannot, they select a neutral umpire who reviews both sides and issues a binding decision. This process is usually far faster and less expensive than going to court, allowing claims to move forward efficiently.
For a deeper dive, you can read our blog on resolving insurance claims through appraisal. We’ve also included a short video below that walks through the appraisal process step by step.
When Appraisal Is Appropriate
Appraisal is generally best suited for disputes where coverage is not in question, but the value of damages is. Common situations include:
Underpaid claims where the scope of damage is contested
Large gaps between contractor estimates and the carrier’s valuation
Stalled negotiations after repeated attempts to settle
Our Role in the Process
As Your Appraiser
We represent the insured’s position, prepare a fully supported valuation, and advocate for the best possible settlement outcome. Our knowledge of policy language, estimating practices, and construction costs allows us to build strong, evidence-based cases. In some instances, if VIP Adjusting is already retained as your Public Adjuster, certain policies allow us to also serve as your appraiser, giving you continuity and consistency throughout the process.
As a Neutral Umpire
We act impartially, reviewing both appraiser’s submissions, conducting property inspections if needed, and issuing fair, unbiased decisions based solely on the evidence and policy terms. Our role is to ensure the process remains credible, efficient, and respected by both parties.
The VIP Difference
What sets VIP Adjusting apart is our blend of experience, certification, and professionalism. Our team includes WIND Certified Appraisers and WIND Certified Umpires, designations that reflect recognized industry standards and a proven commitment to fairness.
As appraisers, we work tirelessly to protect policyholder’s interests and ensure they receive what they are owed. As umpires, we bring impartiality and credibility to every case, ensuring all decisions are made with transparency and integrity. In either role, we communicate clearly, act promptly, and keep the process moving toward resolution.
Appraisal often delivers results in weeks or months rather than years, saving time, money, and stress for everyone involved. Whether you are a policyholder, contractor, attorney, or another professional in need of experienced representation, VIP Adjusting is equipped to step in and help secure a fair resolution.
